What Is Black Myth: Zhong Kui?

Black Myth: Zhong Kui is the second game in Game Science’s Black Myth series, the follow-up to 2024’s Black Myth: Wukong — the Chinese action RPG that sold over 20 million copies in its first month and put Chinese mythology on the AAA map. Instead of the Monkey King, this time the studio is building around Zhong Kui, the ghost-hunting “Demon Queller” of Chinese folklore — a scholar cheated out of his honors who became the king of catching ghosts in the afterlife.

The game was revealed with a CG teaser at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2025, keeping the studio’s tradition of reporting progress every August 20. A six-minute in-engine short followed for Chinese New Year in February 2026, and on August 20, 2026 Game Science published the first real look at the game in motion: a 15-minute gameplay demo showing combat and story scenes from an early development build.

Like Wukong, Black Myth: Zhong Kui is a single-player action RPG with a one-time purchase, planned for PC and mainstream consoles. There is no release date yet — the project is still early — but every official signal, trailer and demo is tracked here.
