Black Myth: Zhong Kui Trailers — Every Official Video in One Place
Game Science doles out Black Myth: Zhong Kui footage about once a year, on its own schedule. This page collects every official video in release order, with the context of what each one actually is — because the three videos so far show three very different things.
1. The gameplay demo — August 20, 2026
The big one: the first real gameplay, released on the studio's traditional August 20 date — a year after the reveal. About 15 minutes from an in-development build (21:9, with an explicit early-development disclaimer): one unbroken take of exploration and combat, a full multi-phase boss fight against “True Lord Giant Clam,” and a montage of further scenes including the famous tiger-riding shot. It shows the sword-and-talisman combat, the ghost-summon and possession system, and the HUD for the first time. Read our frame-by-frame breakdown for everything in it.
2. The Chinese New Year in-engine short — February 10, 2026
Six minutes of in-engine footage released ahead of Chinese New Year (February 17) as a Year-of-the-Horse gift — and deliberately weird: a wordless, darkly comic ghost-kitchen cooking scene. Game Science flagged it at the time as a holiday special unrelated to the actual plot (CEO Feng Ji joked it had “no controls, no combat, no gameplay, no Zhong Kui — because none of that was made yet”). In hindsight it quietly introduced things the real demo would later confirm: talisman fire, kitchen ghosts that look suspiciously like subdued underlings, and a clam spirit resembling the eventual boss. Full unpacking: did the ghost kitchen tease a boss?; contemporaneous report: Gematsu.
3. The reveal teaser — August 20, 2025 (gamescom ONL)
Where it started: the CG teaser that closed gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 as the show's “one more thing.” No gameplay — just the announcement that the Black Myth series would continue not with Wukong DLC, but with a new hero: Zhong Kui, the Demon Queller of Chinese folklore, shown here astride a tiger (an image inspired by a Ming-dynasty painting, per the studio). English dub above; the Chinese dub is on the same channel. Full unpacking: what the teaser actually told us; contemporaneous report: Xinhua.
